Who is Jalal?
Jalal Abukhater is a Palestinian writer and rights advocate based in Jerusalem.
He holds a Master in Diplomacy from the University of Malta (2020) and an MA (Hons) in Politics & International Relations from the University of Dundee (2016). His Master dissertation was titled The effectiveness of the EU role in safeguarding the two-state solution during the time of the US President Trump, and his MA (Hons) dissertation was titled The UK as a Free Society: Myth or Reality.
Prior to that, he had completed his education at the Ramallah Friends School in the West Bank, earning an International Baccalaureate Diploma in 2012.
Jalal began writing at the early age of 16, where he had published an essay in a book titled Demanding Dignity: Young Voices from the Front Lines of the Arab Revolutions, published in 2012.
Today, his bylines appear in various newspapers, magazines, blogs, and mainstream news websites. Those outlets include but are not limited to Aljazeera English, The Guardian, The London Review of Books, GQ Middle East, This Week in Palestine, The Electronic Intifada, D.C. Thompson’s Courier Newspaper, and +972 Magazine.
During his time at the University of Dundee, Jalal was a section editor and writer at the Magdalen student magazine, where he managed the sections of Current Affairs, Travel and Societies.
Jalal is an avid fan of humanist literature, and is a dedicated athlete. He has been a member & community leader/trainer with Right To Movement, a Palestinian group based in several cities (Haifa, Yaffa, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Ramallah); they organize weekly runs & strength workout sessions, as well as seasonal hiking and camping activities. He participates mostly in marathons and other running events; his personal best marathon time is 3h 21m 20s.
